ANCIENT KNOWLEDGE BLOOMS ANEW

The multimedia exhibition FLORA explores the complex relationship between humans, health, and nature. Its starting point is the early German-language herbal »Gart der Gesundheit« (Garden of Health), created in Mainz in 1485. From there, the exhibition spans the arc from historical medicinal plant knowledge to contemporary perspectives on plant effects and ecological challenges.

The exhibition was created by students of Hochschule Mainz in an interdisciplinary collaboration with the Gutenberg Museum and the Natural History Museum, which currently share a museum building and are exhibiting together for the first time.

Interactive, artistic, and sensory stations offer visitors a variety of ways to engage with the themes. Combining digital formats with books and herbaria, historical knowledge, scientific findings, and current questions about climate change and declining biodiversity are woven together.
