Oats
Plant Whisper
An important food source: Oat flakes are considered a healthy, regional superfood with many positive effects on the body. They promote digestion and support a healthy gut flora, primarily due to the soluble fiber beta-glucan, which also has anti-inflammatory properties and soothes the stomach. At the same time, beta-glucan helps lower cholesterol and stabilize blood sugar levels by slowing down sugar absorption. In 1903, before the advent of insulin, the German physician Carl von Noorden developed the first oat-based diet for type 2 diabetics.
Furthermore, oat flakes are a true nutritional powerhouse: They provide valuable plant-based proteins as well as important vitamins (such as B1, B6, and K) and minerals like iron, magnesium, and zinc. Their complex carbohydrates and high fiber content ensure a long-lasting feeling of fullness, making them particularly helpful for weight management. Overall, oat flakes also contribute to supporting cardiovascular health. Green oat straw is traditionally used as a tea for tension and agitation, skin conditions, connective tissue weakness, bladder weakness, and as a restorative and tonic. Fresh plant juice is also used to strengthen the body in cases of nervous exhaustion. The folk saying "I'm itching to get oats" describes this state. Sprouted oat grains, as sprouts or microgreens, are considered a natural dietary supplement containing protein, minerals, and B vitamins.

GOLDEN RULE for EVERYTHING: Eat only what you know! The rule applies: a handful of wild plants per person and day may be collected on public land. Use only washed plant parts that you can identify clearly – when in doubt, please refrain from using them.
TIP: One advantage of buying over-the-counter medicines from a pharmacy or specialist retailer is the expert advice on your symptoms.
